    Chapter 5

Yun Li’an could never have been such an open-minded person. There was only one possible explanation for why he treated Yun Shuyue with such extraordinary affection: she was not someone else’s child.

Yun Suyin narrowed her eyes unconsciously.

If Yun Shuyue was not his stepdaughter but Yun Li’an’s biological daughter, then things would become very interesting.

Yun Shuyue was a whole year older than the original owner.

In other words, while Yun Li’an had been showering Madam Lin with affection and displaying his unwavering devotion to her before everyone in the capital, he must already have had a child with another woman outside.

He had deceived Madam Lin, deceived the Lin family, and deceived everyone in the world.

When Jun Guyan was wearing his robe and leaning against the bed, he noticed the rabbit sitting blankly beside him.

He reached out, grabbed the rabbit by its right hind leg, and lifted it into the air.

Yun Suyin had been deep in thought about the Yun family when she suddenly found herself dangling in midair. She panicked as blood rushed to her head, her eyes widening as she frantically kicked and struggled to escape.

Jun Guyan gave the rabbit a light smack on its backside.

“Keep acting up and I’ll skin you.”

He pulled the little white ball of fur back toward him and idly played with the tips of its ears. The soft, delicate sensation against his fingers was surprisingly pleasant.

Then, seeing the rabbit go limp under his touch, perhaps feeling mischievous, he suddenly flipped it over.

“I’ve had you for quite some time now, yet I still don’t know whether you’re male or female. If you’re male, I’ll have to send you to be castrated…”

    Is this man insane?!

Yun Suyin stared at him in horror.

She could feel the hand resting on her belly moving boldly downward.

She had no time to think about the Yun family anymore. She began struggling frantically, resisting with all her strength solely to protect her chastity.

Caught off guard by the unexpected kick, Jun Guyan released his grip.

The rabbit immediately seized the opportunity and darted beneath the blankets. Only its clear, bright eyes remained visible as it glared at him with righteous indignation.

    “Huh!”

Jun Guyan let out a low laugh, clearly amused.

“Who would have thought a mere rabbit could actually feel embarrassed?”

Yun Suyin glared fiercely at the bastard in front of her, wishing she could chop off that hand right then and there.

Who says rabbits don’t know shame, you bastard?!

Seeing the rabbit glaring at him as though it wanted to eat him alive, Jun Guyan actually smiled—a rare sight.

His lips curved slightly upward, while the half of his face not concealed by his mask took on an indescribably alluring appearance beneath the lamplight.

A smile spread across his pale skin. The sharp line of his jaw was faintly visible, revealing a neck that was extraordinarily sensual.

And when his usually cold voice was replaced by a low, slightly hoarse tone, it seemed to brush teasingly against her ears.

For a moment, Yun Suyin felt a strange itch at the tips of her ears.

Seeing the rabbit staring blankly at him made Jun Guyan’s mood even better.

He then sat up from the bed and noticed a smear of ink on his sleeve.

He frowned in disgust and immediately removed his outer robe.

The garment slipped smoothly down from his shoulders.

Yun Suyin was completely stunned by the sight.

The man before her did not look disabled in the slightest.

His upper body was exceptionally well-built, with firm, lean muscles defined across his chest. The curve of his waist was smooth and perfect as well, so beautiful that she could hardly look away.

Yun Suyin had seen countless celebrities in her modern life, but it was rare to encounter someone with such an outstanding physique.

Especially the scars crisscrossing chaotically across his chest and back. They were etched into his pale skin, yet instead of making him look frightening, they added a wild and strangely alluring quality to his appearance.

    Gulp.

Just as she unconsciously swallowed, a black robe flew through the air and landed over her head.

By the time she finally crawled out from beneath the pile of clothing, Jun Guyan had already changed into a white sleeping robe patterned with clouds.

With his long black hair hanging loose, he called for someone to bring in hot water for a bath.

Yun Suyin reluctantly looked away and pursed her lips.

This man wasn’t merely eccentric. He seemed to have a serious obsession with cleanliness as well.

He had already changed clothes twice in such a short period of time.

And all because he had gotten a little ink on himself, he was insisting on taking a bath despite the freezing weather.

    A reply came from outside.

A short while later, two men entered carrying warm water. They carefully placed a wooden bathing tub behind the folding screen and began filling it.

One of them approached the bed and respectfully said,

“Your Highness, allow me to help you.”

    “Mm.”

    Jun Guyan answered briefly.

The man bent down and reached out to support him.

Yun Suyin was crouched nearby, secretly looking forward to seeing the handsome man’s bathing scene.

But the moment she raised her head, she suddenly noticed that the man’s gaze had changed.

His eyes had become frighteningly cold.

    Watch out!

Yun Suyin instinctively sensed the murderous intent descending upon them.

Without thinking, she leapt toward him and slammed her head into the man’s.

The assassin had been just about to make his move. He had never imagined that the rabbit beside them would suddenly attack.

His vision was thrown into disarray. He swung one hand to knock the rabbit away, but another hand moved first.

Jun Guyan snatched Yun Suyin out of the air and retreated, then pulled the long sword hidden beneath his pillow and swung it without hesitation.

A cold flash of sword light swept through the room.

The head of the man charging toward Jun Guyan was severed cleanly and flew through the air.

Blood sprayed everywhere, splattering across Yun Suyin’s face.

Unable to move his legs, Jun Guyan collapsed heavily back onto the bed.

Yun Suyin, who had been held in his arms, suddenly slipped from his grasp and rolled helplessly across the bed before landing directly on his face.

Then she felt a cool, soft sensation against her lips.

Her bright red rabbit eyes met a pair of deep, dark phoenix-shaped eyes at point-blank range.

The normally gloomy and sinister depths of his eyes were filled with bewilderment.

The moment she realized what she had done, Yun Suyin’s eyes widened as though they were about to pop out of their sockets.

Her entire body froze, and her mind went completely blank.

I—I—I—I… Did I just kiss this bastard?!

Jun Guyan had never expected such an accident either.

When the small, soft rabbit landed on him and he saw the sheer shock reflected in its red eyes, his entire body stiffened as well.

The two of them stared at each other with wide eyes, completely dumbfounded.

Then a sharp sound of rushing wind came from behind Jun Guyan’s head.

Jun Guyan instantly came to his senses.

Murderous intent flashed through his eyes.

    “Stay still!”

He grabbed the rabbit and shoved it beneath the blankets before bracing himself against the bed and launching his upper body upward.

He lowered his body to evade the incoming flash of sword light, then raised the sword in his hand to block the assassin’s attack.

    Clang!

“You must have a death wish!”

    Jun Guyan’s expression turned icy.

He reached out and struck the assassin with tremendous force.

The assassin was sent flying backward and crashed into the wall.

With a loud bang, the assassin fell to the floor, coughing up blood.

At that moment, the outer cabin door was violently smashed open.

    “Your Highness!”

Man Jun burst through the broken door.

He saw the two men lying on the floor, and his expression immediately became extremely grim.

Before boarding the ship, they had searched everything thoroughly.

He had never imagined that an assassin could still manage to sneak aboard and attempt to harm His Highness.

He hurried over, kicked the surviving assassin hard in the side, and pinned him to the floor.

“I was negligent. An assassin managed to infiltrate the imperial vessel and attempted to harm Your Highness. Please punish me.”

Jun Guyan’s hand was stained with blood.

There was no trace of warmth left in his long, narrow eyes.

His clothes were splattered with the assassin’s blood, and his eyes seemed almost dyed red.

The sinister gaze with which he stared at the assassin sent a chill down one’s spine.

    “Who sent you?”

Jun Guyan looked down at the assassin and asked coldly.

    “Ptui!”

    The assassin struggled to spit.

“A traitor like you deserves to die no matter who kills him. Want to know who sent me? Keep dreaming.”

After saying this, the assassin tried to bite down on his tongue and commit suicide.

But Man Jun, quick to react, struck his jaw and stopped him.

“You think dying will be that easy?”

    Man Jun shouted furiously.

“Speak! Who is behind the attempt to assassinate His Highness?”

The assassin glared with wide eyes, showing that he would rather die than submit.

    Man Jun was furious.

He slammed his fist down hard and dislocated the assassin’s arm before pressing him against the floor, forcing his cheek firmly against the ground.

“You’d better confess willingly. There are plenty of ways to make you talk.”

The assassin’s face was pressed against the floor until it was a bloody mess.

He groaned in pain and muttered,

“Dream… dream on. If you’ve got the guts… then kill me…”

Just as Man Jun’s eyes turned cold and he was about to act, Jun Guyan spoke indifferently.

    “Enough.”

    Jun Guyan’s eyes darkened.

He stared coldly at the assassin, whose disfigured face was still glaring defiantly at him.

“Since your loyalty is so deep that you do not fear death, I shall grant your wish.”

    He paused.

“Take him out and hang him at the rear of the ship. Pierce the top of his skull and pour molten metal into it. Then strip the flesh from his body piece by piece and throw it to the fish.”

The assassin’s eyes widened in terror.

He opened his mouth to scream, but Man Jun immediately clamped a hand over it.

“You dared attempt to assassinate our Prince. I’ll make sure you experience suffering more terrible than death itself!”

    Man Jun sneered.

People outside quickly entered and dragged the assassin away.

A short while later, agonizing screams spread from outside the cabin.

Only then did Jun Guyan turn his attention back to Man Jun.

“When we return to the capital, give yourself thirty strokes of the cane. If anything like this happens again, you’ll be sent back to Poison Valley.”

All traces of the playful expression that had been on Man Jun’s face earlier disappeared.

A chill ran down his spine.

“Poison Valley” was exactly what its name suggested—a place teeming with every kind of poison. Once someone entered, there was no way to come out alive.

Man Jun immediately lowered his head.

    “Thank you, Your Highness.”

Man Jun approached and helped Jun Guyan move to his wheelchair. He then summoned people to clean up the bloodstains and bodies inside the cabin.

Because everyone was so busy, no one noticed that the rabbit hiding in the corner had disappeared.

Yun Suyin was crouched outside the rear window of the cabin, completely naked beneath Jun Guyan’s black robe.

Sounds of people moving about filled the area outside.

She stared blankly at her own fair, delicate hands.

Even at this very moment, she still couldn’t understand how she had suddenly transformed back into a human.

Earlier, when chaos had erupted inside the cabin, Jun Guyan had shoved her beneath the blankets.

Not long afterward, she had felt her body begin to change.
